It's Burger Time!

It's Burger Time!

I'm a man who loves him some burgers. Oh yes, there's nothing more American than some good ol' fashion ground beef in patty form between buns. Forget Hot Dogs, mainly because I've mastered the bacon wrapped hot dog. It's all about the hamburger.

Nothing else to me screams out summer food than that. It's just the way it is. So when I hear that The Oinkster in Eagle Rock is having a week long celebration to burgers, I get a bit happy inside.

Not only is it a week long celebration to burgers, but it's a week long celebration to SoCal burgers. They're doing all the hometown renditions of the classic burger in their own way.

The event starts today with their take on the classic Big Mac. Yup, for $6.50 you get two all beef patties special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and a sesame seed bun. While this was far more than you were going to pay at the golden arches, this Oinkster done burger was far better than I have ever tasted at a McDonalds drive thru.

So what are the rest of the burgers of the week?

Tuesday:
Now this is a strange one. They're going to do their take on the Tommy's chili cheese burger. The strange aspect to this one is that there's a Tommy's Burger stand only two or three blocks east of Oinkster. A Tommy's that I would go very often to in my early college days. So it's going to be interested to see what they come up with a spin on this one to make it worth the $7 being charged for it.

Wednesday
Father knows best, and in this case you're getting a Father's Office burger like no other. It's caramelized onions, applewood bacon, gruyere cheese, maytag blue cheese and arugula for $8.50, which comes out to be just a bit shy of what you're being charged on the west side for it.

I do have to wonder if you're going to be able to substitute items out of it or if they're going to stick to the tradition of being a Burger nazi and not allowing for any of that. One benefit though, Oinkster is probably going to leave their ketchup out for you to use on this day.

Thursday
Thursday is a must for me. It's the day that the hardcore metal heads from the Grill 'Em All Truck take over the kitchen. Chef Ryan and Matt take over this mofo from 8 to 10 cooking up Grll 'Em All Burgers.

Considering I'll follow these guys to hell itself happily, I'm looking forward to this one.

Friday
On Friday your fifth sense kicks in when Oinkster tackles the Umami burger. Aged kobe beef with some oven roasted tomatoes and caramelized onions and permesan frico and shitake mushrooms with some house made ketchup? How could you pass this one up even if you've been at the many Umami joints. This sucker will set you back $9.50

Saturday and Sunday
Have you've ever had a $25.00 burger? Well you can say you had one after coming here on any of the two weekend days. Though this Kobe beef with white mushrooms and sauteed shallots , cream, cambozola cheese, truffle aioli, arugula, crispy onions on a french burger may sound fancy for $25, it'll only set you back $9.50.

Think of it like Carl's Jr. $6 burger. Only a lot better.

The bonus thing is if you come in on any of these days and buy one of their experimental burgers, you'll get a wooden nickle. This may seem like bunk currency but it's good for 50% off the classic burgers on their menu any other day you come in. How can you beat that savings being passed on?

Even better is if you actually make it through all of the burger days and keep your receipts, come next week you'll get a free shirt claiming you survived burger week at Oinkster. Though to get one of those you actually have to survive and not get a heart attack.

Make sure you head on down to try their take on some of the more popular burgers of L.A.'s history. And yes, the Big Mac is a SoCal creation, stop trying to push it away. This is going to be some seriously good burgin' times. Especially since Oinkster has some great beers always on tap.

Yeah, I'm so not going to be doing my diet any good here.
